Open Letter to Broadview (formerly known as Brinks) Customers

ADT acquires Broadview Security

What was formerly Brinks Home Security is now owned by Tyco.

Having been in the industry for over a decade, I am still having difficulty letting this news sink in.  The two great home security rivals are now one company.  Unbelievable!  This has the same feel as if Mitsubishi Auto had bought Ford Motor Company!  Having worked in both ADT and Broadview dealer programs in the past, I truly felt that Broadview (Brinks) was the best in the market.  But how times have changed!

I left the Broadview Dealer program at the end of last year, unhappy about the market approach that Broadview was taking.  Their corporate focus took a left turn; their priorities shifted away from customer service and dealer support. It now appears that they were getting ready to sell out; what I observed was likely a symptom of their having short-term corporate goals.

A few months ago my company, WNC Alarm, began to offer home security solutions for people who needed a better solution than ADT was (and is) able to offer, while maintaining the level of professionalism that they had come to expect with Broadview. Now with ADT’s purchase, Broadview customers are likely going to get the short end of the stick.

The recent ADT acquisition would scare me if I were a Broadview customer.

I’m sure that ADT and Broadview will say the right things in an effort to ease customers’ reservations about their “transition”, but I foresee major customer service issues.  For many years a good portion of my business came from people calling to express their frustration and anger about issues related to ADT. I don’t see those issues going away, in fact I’m sure they will increase and multiply into other problems.
